Mesa MLK Day Parade

Volunteer for 2024 Mesa MLK Parade

Mesa, I am excited to share an upcoming event that's close to our hearts. Our Citywide Volunteer Program Coordinator, Katie Pollak, has been working hard to organize the 2024 Mesa Martin Luther King Parade, and we need your help!

This event is more than a celebration; it's a testament to Dr. King's enduring legacy of unity, equality, and community transformation. The theme is "Transforming Communities: Building Bridges Together." We aim to embody Dr. King's vision in every aspect of this gathering.

Parade History:

In 1987, Mesa welcomed a group of citizens from Culver City, California, and employees of Hughes Helicopters, who gathered to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy. The next year, Warren Simms and Chellette Henderson organized Mesa's first MLK Breakfast. Despite initial challenges, the event grew, adding a march and festival. Persistence paid off, and in 1996, Mesa voters established a citywide holiday to celebrate Dr. King's leadership. The parade's mission is to uphold Dr. MLK Jr.'s legacy by advocating his principles of nonviolence, love, peace, and equality for everyone.
