In light of the recent Colorado River water shortage, it's more crucial than ever that we come together to conserve water. I'm proud of Mesa's proactive approach to expanding our conservation programs, but we can do more as a community.
The Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) cities, including Mesa, have been leading in water conservation for decades. In 2022 alone, our collective efforts have led to significant water savings, from removing over half a million square feet of grass to implementing more than 35 new rebate programs for water-efficient technologies. It's not just about saving water; it's about ensuring our city's future.
Our various initiatives and outreach programs show Mesa's commitment to reducing water waste. We've sent out over 108,000 high-water use notifications, offering tailored advice to reduce consumption. This proactive approach is vital for managing our water resources efficiently and sustainably.
But we can't do this alone. Each one of us plays a role in conserving water. Small actions like fixing leaks, choosing drought-tolerant plants, or participating in our city's rebate programs can make a big difference. Together, we can ensure that Mesa continues to be a place where people thrive despite water scarcity.
