Mesa MLK Day Parade: Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy

Join us for the Mesa-East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Parade and Festival this upcoming Monday, January 15th. This isn't just any parade; it's Arizona's only MLK Day parade, taking place right here in Downtown Mesa.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. at the corner of MLK Way and Center St. I can't think of a better way to honor Dr. King's legacy than by coming together as a community, walking the streets he inspired us to transform through unity and peace.

But the celebration doesn’t end with the parade. We've got an incredible community festival planned at The Plaza at Mesa City Center, running until 4 p.m. It will be a day filled with joy and reflection, featuring food, vendors, entertainment, and activities that families will love.

Reflecting on our parade's history, it’s amazing to see how it has grown from a small gathering of a group of citizens in 1987 who came together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy to a significant citywide event that captures the spirit of Dr. King's dream. It’s a testament to Mesa's resilience and commitment to upholding his principles of nonviolence, love, and equality for all.

I'm particularly excited about this year's theme, "Transforming Communities: Building Bridges Together." It perfectly encapsulates what we aim to achieve – a community that embodies Dr. King's vision in every aspect.

Let's come together to celebrate, remember, and continue to work towards the change we want to see in our community and beyond. A special shout-out to all the volunteers who have signed up to support this event!
