As a councilman and a mayoral candidate for Mesa, I'm thrilled to share some exciting news about the Arizona State University’s Polytechnic campus. Recently, we broke ground on a groundbreaking project: the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 12 (ISTB12). This new multi-level research and education hub is a significant stride in bolstering our city's reputation as a center for engineering and technology.
Furthermore, Mesa is proud to have ASU’s Gateway Polytechnic Campus create this state-of-the-art facility. It's not just a building; it's a symbol of our commitment to fostering innovation and growth in the manufacturing sector. ISTB12 will house the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering’s new School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, turning the campus into a solutions-focused hub for education and collaboration.
Spanning over 173,000 square feet, the building will feature three floors of office, meeting, instructional, and research spaces. It’s designed to prepare students to tackle societal challenges through engineering solutions. Additionally, specialized labs will focus on cutting-edge fields like additive manufacturing, robotics, cyber manufacturing, and more.
The sustainability features, such as rainwater collection and solar-ready infrastructure, align with ASU's commitment to eco-friendly development.
This expansion is just one of many initiatives that reinforce Mesa's dedication to education and industry growth. I'm excited to see how this project propels our community forward, offering new opportunities for our students and local industries.
